來自南美洲的Nacho和法國的Olivier上週的某個下午在我面前爭論哪種甜點最好吃,吵著吵著就說要來場兩個男人之間的甜點比賽,時間訂在1月22日的晚上,地點是學校的新宿舍─Stringfellow Hall,要我當評審好分個高下。
這麼簡單,我又有口福了,每次遇到都難免驕傲自己的好福氣,也約了Cindy和Percy 一起準備豐盛的前菜沙拉,與主餐咖哩配飯或Naan。
Stringfellow Hall 擁有學校最棒的廚房,在四樓大片落地窗廚房烹煮的每個人都像在示範教學或者拿著鍋產捧著水果的模特兒,喝酒聊天的時候又好像在拍實鏡真人秀,反正從對面或樓下都可以對廚房內一覽無遺。Nacho 是Apple tarte tatin專家, Apple tarte tatin的作法簡單說就是先把糖倒在平底鍋煎成焦糖,切好的蘋果放入鍋內煎煮,將焦糖及布滿焦糖的半軟蘋果倒入烤盤後鋪上先前準備好的base,然後進入烤箱。
Olivier的 Apple Crumble 我也在Hugues的指導下做過幾次所以不陌生,但他在擺放順序及結構上跟我先前學得很不一樣,最後在表面灑上cinnamon (肉桂粉) 並畫上笑臉創意有加分,然後和Apple tarte tatin一起放入烤箱。
前菜和咖哩大餐結束後,從烤箱內端出的Apple tarte tatin 和 Apple Crumble香味四溢,兩個大男生開始互相嗆聲,然後兩個都一樣要香草冰淇淋搭配各自的甜點,同樣的麵粉,同樣的糖及butter,同樣的蘋果,同樣的香草冰淇淋,就是口感大大不同,一邊是布滿焦糖幸福感滿分的烤蘋果,一邊是蘋果切片和著肉桂的自然香甜。
最後的評分階段,他們很貼心的率先把冠軍頒給準備咖哩配飯及Naan的女生們,避免我們傻笑呆滯不知道該頒給誰的尷尬,搞笑但是聰明貼心,印象深刻,很開心的晚上。
